Selective laser sintering (SLS) material: iglidur® i3

The material iglidur i3, specially developed for laser sintering, proved to have an abrasion resistance 3 to 30 times higher than conventional materials for laser sintering during tribological tests in the igus test laboratory. This means the degree of design freedom for wear-resistant parts has been further increased. This material is used for all sliding applications and for rollers, gear racks, spur gears and bevel gears.

When to use it?

For all types of applications where low friction and high wear resistance are important
When a high-strength, easy-to-process laser sintering material is required
When components with high mechanical strength are required – especially spur gears, bevel gears, drive nuts, special slides, and spherical bearings
Very good wear properties with anodised aluminium as a mating partner

When not to use it?

For underwater use or applications with high humidity (→ iglidur i8-ESD)
If components with ESD properties are required (→ iglidur i8-ESD or iglidur i9-ESD)
For worm wheel applications (→ iglidur i6)
If a food grade material is required (→ iglidur i6)
If the application temperature is higher than 80°C in the long term (→ iglidur i230 or iglidur A350 or iglidur RW370)
